Monday 15th December saw a friendly football tournament between a St Mary’s football team and two teams of asylum seekers connected with iCaf and English classes at St Mary’s.
Jack Bradshaw had some nice kit tops which we wore whilst the other teams were in orange or yellow bibs. We (St Mary’s) won our first match, meaning we went on to the final round. The other two teams then played, with the yellow team comfortably winning against the other. The winning team was entered into the final with our team. The final was an evenly matched, fast paced, highly contested game with both teams putting in a great effort. The yellow bibbed team was the first to score, we then rushed to try and equalise but this didn’t come to fruition, securing the yellow team first place.
The award ceremony was held, presenting the winning team with a box of Celebrations chocolates which was received with much enthusiasm and cheering. The prize was kindly offered out to everyone, including the runners up. It was great fun and a good event which everyone seemed to enjoy.
Thank you to Katherine Edwards for organising it and Fran for booking the pitch and everyone else who helped make it happen.
