Last year I mentioned how I was using Halloween as the perfect time to reach out to people with the good news of Jesus.
Our streets are filled with families who together dress up and knock on our doors to wish one another a ‘Happy Halloween’ and receive treats.
Whatever their motive to do this, as Christians we should be encouraging our communities to share life together and this is the one time of the year that the rest of the world agrees with us.
There is a wonderful initiative that a number of us are interested in growing across the UK to be houses of light on those dark October nights in the week leading up to 31st October. Check out the lightinthenight webpage for more information.
As the local representative here in Maidenhead I am happy to share any ideas with anyone in the church family who would like to take part and/or help provide resources that could turn the darkest night of the year into the perfect opportunity to share the light of Christ with our friends and neighbours.
As you know, for the last couple of years, I have run an outreach event outside my house on the Bomber Estate, creating a Spiders Web challenge for the children to take part in, where they receive a gift bag with sweets plus a little gospel message and information about the local church. The theme I use is ‘I am not afraid because…..Jesus is the light’. There are other people in other parts of the country who stand outside their home offering hot chocolate to those walking past their homes, with decorated windows declaring that Jesus is light.
Please pray for the initiatives currently happening and please pray about how you can join in the revolution to turn the darkest night of the year into the brightest night where communities can be transformed.
