I’m Emily Evans, and I’m delighted to be joining the St Mary’s staff team.
I grew up in Wales and moved to England for university. Since then, I’ve made England my home and have spent the last ten years working as a Classics teacher at a boys’ school in London. One of the perks of being a Classics teacher is that I’ve picked up a few languages along the way. I speak English, Welsh, Latin and Greek, although opportunities for speaking Latin and Greek in everyday life are somewhat limited!
My husband, Jonathan, and I have been part of the 11am congregation since 2019 and St Mary’s has become a place where we’ve grown in faith and fellowship.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me with my nose in a book or out for a run, although “running” might be a generous description of the pace!
I am incredibly excited to combine my experience of teaching young people with my faith. Co-discipling and co-evangelising to young people together with families is a real privilege. One of the most precious and encouraging parts of the Bible to me is Ephesians 3:14-21. I love the way Paul prays that believers would be rooted and established in love and would grasp “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”. For me, that prayer captures the heart of Christian ministry. My hope is that every young person would come to know for themselves the immeasurable love of God and, from that foundation, grow in faith and confidence as a follower of Jesus.
I can’t wait to see what God will do in and through us as a church community.
