Wayne Dixon is a local and long-standing St Mary’s mission partner. He works with his colleague Beth Gomm for Christian Connections in Schools (CCiS), visiting local schools in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead.
Wayne was due to attend the St Mary’s Evening on 13th November to talk about his work. However, he was unable to come in person because sadly his father has died. His PowerPoint slides were shared, together with a short video.
Scripture Union estimates that throughout the UK 95% of children in schools have no contact with a local church. Wayne and Beth encourage partnerships between churches and local primary schools, in particular through initiatives such as ‘Christmas Unwrapped’, ‘Easter Cracked’ and ‘It’s Your Move’. They are able to go into secondary schools to teach about Jesus in RE lessons and assemblies. They interact with any students who have questions or wish to talk to them in their ‘Hanging Around Ministry’, and they encourage and support Christian teachers and students and assist with Christian Unions in schools.
Please pray for:
- Wayne, his wife Joyce and son Chris as they mourn the death of Wayne’s father.
- Give thanks for the access Wayne and Beth have to local schools and pray for wisdom and sensitivity for them in their work.
- ‘Christmas Unwrapped’ starts on Tuesday 18th November until Tuesday 9th December and there are over 50 schools having this either in their school or at one of nine local churches, including St Mary’s. Pray for all children and staff (over 2500) who will attend as Jesus, the reason for the season, is shared.
- Christian groups / Youth Alpha this term, and especially from January, at the following schools, Altwood, Beaconsfield High, Burnham Grammar, Furze Platt Senior, Holyport College, Newlands Girls’ and Windsor Girls’ and a possible one at Cox Green. Pray for the Christian young people involved.
- Give thanks for ‘iSingPOP’ at three schools this term.
- Pray for all the Christians involved in their local schools, for wisdom in what they say and that they may be witnesses for God in all that they do.
- For more local churches and more individuals willing to pray for and support CCiS, so that CCiS can maintain and develop opportunities in the schools around here. See: https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/15841
- A possible Youth Gathering in the new year for young people from Maidenhead churches to encourage and use as a catalyst to share Jesus with peers.
- For wisdom for the Trustees.
