Nick and Lucy Nelson are associate mission partners for the year from September 2025. Associate mission partners are short-term partners, typically someone from the church family who is involved in gospel ministry for a limited time period. They supported by prayer and added to the Sunday services’ mission prayer rota and the monthly St Mary’s Evening prayer sheet. A small contribution towards their financial support is also provided.
Hello St Mary’s! We’re Nick and Lucy Nelson. We are so grateful to have you as a church supporting us.
This year we graduated from our bachelors / masters, got married at St Mary’s, and moved to Paris together. We’re now both interns at Église de la Montagne (EDLM), a francophone church which was planted in September in the 5th arrondissement (where we live). That means we work principally for EDLM, though we also have regular Bible-handling workshops with another church (Église Connexion) and an organisation called 2 Timothée 2.2. We’re also doing part time studies (Nick), and language learning (Lucy).
We’ve really loved joining EDLM. It’s already quite large for a French church, with about 50-70 people on a Sunday, Christians and seekers; it’s in the university district (in a cinema!), so about 10-15 of these are students. This means that our weeks as interns are an exciting mix of reading the Bible with students one-to-one, hosting people, cooking for weekly church / student events and preparing various elements of the Sunday services, as well as theological reading and time with our mentors. It can be tiring emotionally, linguistically and culinarily, but God has been faithfully sustaining us, not least through our church family.
We would love it if you wanted to join us as we pray for a few things:
- EDLM. Pray for our church to draw more local people in, to actively welcome those who don’t yet know Jesus and to edify those who do. Thank God for several students who are wanting to be baptised, and pray that he would use us as a church to encourage them.
- Guidance for the future. We are planning on living in France long-term and working in churches / church plants here, if it’s God’s will. We’re less sure about exactly what that means for the next few years, but we think we might stay at EDLM for a year or two more working in secular jobs before we head off to study theology. Please pray for wisdom and clarity.
- Our personal relationships with God. Pray that a sincere and growing knowledge and love of God would be what fuels the work we do here and that we would be diligent in our time reading his word and in prayer.
If you’d like to receive our prayer letters, please email Lucy at lucyjoynelson@gmail.com and let her know.
Love
Lucy and Nick
