From 26th – 29th August we had our annual St Mary’s Holiday Club!

This year our theme was ‘The King’s Castle.’ The church was transformed into King Johan XVIII’s castle, and the rest of the site became his kingdom. The children and volunteers were put into their teams which included the Bakers, the Carpenters, the Cooks, the Guards, the Jousters and many more. Once everyone had arrived and were assigned to their teams, we were ready to begin our adventure.

Each day consisted of games on the Battlefield with Harry and his Knights, crafts in the Craft Court with Melinda and Fran, and Bible studies in the Keeps.

We began each day in the Castle with King Johan XVIII and his Super Squires (Matthew, Sophia, and Elizabeth). Here, we sang songs and heard talks from Rachel, Adam, and Nick all about the best King of all time, King Jesus.

Our teaching scheme this year helped us to see what kind of a King Jesus is:

  • Rachel showed us how Jesus is the King we can trust
  • Adam helped us to see that Jesus is the King who came to serve
  • Nick taught us how Jesus is the King who conquered death

Our memory verse for the week was Mark 10:45:

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

While King Johan was bossing us around to get us to serve him, we found out that King Jesus came to serve us by dying on the cross to take away our sin.

Holiday Club 2025 was so encouraging! I am so thankful for the 94 children who were booked in, for the 82 volunteers who served so faithfully, and for our Lord God who provided for us and who was at work in the children and volunteers by his Holy Spirit. The week ended with a very well attended Sunday Holiday Club all-age service with a barbecue afterwards. Let’s pray that new families will continue to join us on Sundays, and that people in the town of Maidenhead will come to know the Lord Jesus through the work of Holiday Club.
