Poverty is so much more than going without. Poverty destroys lives. It robs people of joy, hope, and opportunities. It tears families apart, isolates those most in need of support, and leads many to believe there is no way out.

CAP in Maidenhead is growing beyond its existing partner church. So five evangelical churches in Maidenhead are collaborating to establish a local CAP charity that will continue this effective service and local mission.

For some who have gone through the CAP programme, they have not only found debt freedom but found Jesus too.

Jesus asks us to help the poor and oppressed, and this is a direct way in which we can be obedient to him.

The charity is looking for:

  • Trustees (one from each church). Roughly 4 meetings per year, plus some reading / emailing in the meantime. Probably about 4 hours per month – though more to begin with.
  • Debt coaches – paid or volunteer. There is one debt coach already who supports two new clients a month, the current demand is 12 new clients a month! Training is provided by CAP. No prior financial experience is needed.
  • Befrienders – people who go with the debt coach and then continue to support the family through the whole process. These are the folk who will form deeper relationships, bring them to church and pray with them etc. Training is provided by CAP.

If you can offer your support or want to know more, contact Rachel Meynell or Andy Fielding. More information will follow as this great initiative progresses.
