Junior Youth Weekend Away: A Bold Adventure in Faith
This October, we kicked off our Junior Youth Weekend Away with 33 young people from St Mary’s and St James’s in Gerrards Cross. We returned to the stunning Oakwood Activity Centre in Wokingham, a perfect place for relaxation, fun, and spiritual growth. Oakwood once again provided fantastic accommodation, along with activities that kept everyone energised and engaged.
This year’s theme was “BE BOLD” going through the book of Acts and led by Nick McDonald. The message of Acts reminds us of the power of living out our faith courageously, relying on the Holy Spirit for strength, and sharing the hope we have in Christ, no matter the challenges we face. Nick’s teaching sparked meaningful discussions among the young people, helping them explore how they, too, can step out boldly in their faith.
Our weekends away have a reputation for being transformative experiences, and we’re so grateful to everyone who supported this event with prayers and encouragement. These weekends often come up in the testimonies of young people as pivotal in their spiritual journeys.
Saturday was packed with excitement as the Oakwood team led us through archery, low ropes, and crate stacking. The afternoon was full of laughter as everyone competed in games, and one of the St Mary’s girls’ groups took on the ultimate engineering challenge—building a spaghetti and marshmallow tower that reached an impressive 1.2 metres!
Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to announce our next Senior Youth Weekend Away in February 2025. We’re planning another unforgettable weekend full of fun, friendship, and time spent diving into God’s Word.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support and pray for these young people as they grow in faith and boldness!
