The Family DNA at St Mary's
We are an evangelical Anglican church seeking to encourage each other to love and follow Jesus day by day. We take the Bible as our handbook, containing all we need to know God and to live for him. We believe that by his Spirit God speaks to us today through his word, the Bible.
What we're about
At St Mary’s we don’t believe that churches have to spend time dreaming up mission statements or ‘visions’. Jesus himself gave us, and all churches, our ‘mission’ which is to go into the world and make disciples (Matthew 28 v19).
We seek to fulfil this mission by:
- Reaching people in Maidenhead with the wonderful, life-giving message of Jesus
- Building-up our church family in their faith and love for Jesus
- Sending people from our church family out to share this message with others in the UK or abroad
Why do we call ourselves a family?
Because God is our Heavenly father and we are his children. As part of his church we are also ‘his body’ on earth and work to show his love to those around us. Although we are a diverse group of people we are united by his love for us and our love for others in our church family, despite our many differences.
What sums us up?
A hospital for sinners
Please don’t think we are a bunch of ‘sorted’ and ‘holy’ people. Many of us are broken, hurting, feel our weakness and know our faults. But we know that Jesus welcomes people like us and calls us to receive his love and care for each other as well.
Jesus is at the centre of everything we do and stand for at St. Mary’s. We believe he is at the heart of God’s plans for the world. We believe he acted in amazing love towards us by dying on the cross for our sins and gives us hope in the face of death through his resurrection. In response we seek to live our lives for him.
We believe that God has told us everything we need to know about Jesus in the Bible. We are convinced that the Holy Spirit works powerfully as God’s word is declared, and so the Bible is central to every area of our church life.
We long to show God’s love to the world and share the hope we have in him. We are excited by the wonderful news of Jesus and desire that others come to experience the ‘life to the full’ that Jesus promised. We run events for people to find out more about Christianity and seek to have an active presence for good in our town.
But to really understand what we’re about, do come and see for yourself.
